Party animals
OK, Fido fans. Are you ready to party?
You've heard of Tupperware parties, but what about Pupperware parties? They're gaining in popularity — with pets and pet lovers.
Dianne Huesemann of Ellisville recently hosted a Shure Pets Pupperware party inviting family, friends and neighbors to her "dog-friendly" home. Seven dogs took center stage, and about 10 humans kicked back as soon as the party started.
Huesemann says, "It didn't take much preparation at all. I whipped up a plate of fresh fruit, cheese, crackers and some nuts for the adults and grabbed a bag of dog treats for the dogs including her pet, Roscoe, a 3-year-old Jack Russell terrier.
Before the party, she moved a few pieces of furniture around for Shure Pets consultant Megan Schacht and her date, Millie, an 11-month-old German shepherd. Schacht set up a folding table filled with Shure Pets products that included health and beauty aids, gifts for pet-lovers and treats and toys for furry friends.
"It's a night out with my best friend," said Gail Hueseman, 56 of Fenton, who came with Scarlett, an 11-year-old miniature dachshund. Gail is Dianne's sister-in-law, who spells her last name with one n. "I love to spend time and a little money on my dog." She purchased the Tidy Puppy Mitten, a terry cloth mitten that easily wipes dirty paws for $9. She couldn't resist the Pooch Party Cake Kit at $10. It comes in a microwavable container and includes a cake mix, biscuit, a party horn, a balloon and spoon — everything you need to celebrate your dog's birthday. Shure Pets carries a large line of pet apparel, for cats and dogs, including collars, bandanas and leashes, designed to keep your pet comfortable yet looking chic and trendy.
Plenty of treats and toys are also available such as Lolli-pups, a cookie with colored paw prints for $4 or Bone-Appetite Biscotti Bars in pumpkin or coconut flavors. Each bag contains 20 bars and retails for $9.
