Dear Pet Lover ,

February is Pet Dental Health month and we want to take this opportunity to stress the importance of maintaining good pet dental hygiene. To emphasize the significance, we are offering a FREE tube of Shure Pets' Brilliance Toothpaste with every order of $50 of more this month. Pet Dental Health is very important and neglected by many pet owners. I was amazed to learn that most pet owners ensure their pets have proper vaccinations, are groomed regularly, and have no fleas or ticks, but still ignore their pet's dental needs. I hope we can help educate pet lovers about the importance of pet dental health.  To place your order and receive your FREE tube of Brilliance Toothpaste, call your Independent Pet Consultant today. Or, visit our web site at www.shurepets.com and order online using your Pet Consultant's ID number. If you need a Pet Consultant, please contact us at the Corporate Office (toll free1.888.SHURE.PETS, 1.888.748.7373) and we'll refer you to the Pet Consultant closest to you.

~Thank you from the bottom of my paws, Andrew Shure, Shure Pets Founder

Nancy Arenas (#0023), a resident of Orlando, Florida, has done a grrr-eat job beginning her Shure Pets business with continuous orders and a paws-itive attitude. Nancy plans to own a full-service doggie day care, complete with a grooming service and obedience training in the future. She believes that being an Independent Pet Consultant for Shure Pets will both help pave the way and provide an additional element to make the business well rounded. Arenas spends her days as a Bid Coordinator for Mechanical Services of Central Florida, but spends her off-work time taking classes in dog grooming and obedience training. Twice a month, Arenas takes Molly, her 8-year-old standard Collie/Aussie Mix to the pediatric ward of Florida Hospital to visit with the kids there. Molly has been trained as a pet therapy dog. "Taking Molly to the hospital to visit the kids is truly rewarding," explained Arenas. "The kids, doctors, nurses and parents all look forward to our regular visits. To see the kids' eyes light up when Molly and I arrive is the greatest feeling. Molly is the perfect dog for this since she has a mild, even temperament and is not scared easily."

Working with her local Society for the Prevention   of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA), Arenas has
identified a good source of potential customers. She has an ad for her business in the February issue of the SPCA's newsletter. In addition, she has written articles about Pet Therapy and Shure Pets for another local publication called Unleashed Orlando and is hopeful they will be printed. "I want to help get the word out about Shure Pets so more people will be aware of the outstanding quality of products we offer," said Arenas. "Everyone who has tried the products has given me rave reviews."

Arenas says her dogs, Tessa and Molly have inspired her to all things dog, they are her babies and she cherishes the unconditional love and attention they give her. She lives with Tessa, a three-year-old Border Collie/Aussie Mix, and Molly, an eight-year-old Standard Collie/Aussie mix. Keep up the great work Nancy, we look forward to continued success with you!

Paramount Stain and Odor Control: Shure Pets ' top selling item in 2003, our Stain and Odor Control, is formulated to remove undesirable organic and household odors from areas soiled by pet urine and feces. This product is not a cover-up, it actually removes undesired odors. It contains a pleasant citrus fragrance and in addition to cleaning up after your companion pet, Paramount Stain & Odor Control cleans everything washable including: Carpet, chrome, doors, fiberglass, glass, machinery, metal, mirrors, plastic, porcelain, tiles, walls, windows and woodwork.

Q: Why does my pet urinate in the house?

A: Puppies and kittens are responsible for many unexpected puddles. Just as human infants have to mature in order to learn bladder control, puppies and kittens do as well. Senior animals may experience a loss of bladder function, while some companion pets naturally have bladder control problems. Yet others simply need to be properly trained to eliminate in an acceptable place.

Q: Why does my pet urinate and eliminate in the exact same spot as he previously did?

A: Most pets have a sense of smell that is more sensitive than humans. Because they can smell the ammonia from the last time there was an "accident", they often return to the same spot. Even though the area may have been cleaned well, it is still necessary to treat the spot with an odor neutralizer like Paramount Stain and Odor Control. These products break down the chemical nature of the ammonia, which, in turn, eliminates the smell of ammonia that triggers a pet to "mark" the spot again.

Paramount Orange Mango Foaming Cleanser: Give your pet a bath without all the hassles of water (i.e. scratching, splashing or finicky pets) with Shure Pets' Orange Mango Foaming Cleanser. This is
a foam-based bath that is incredibly simple and easy to use. It renews freshness and is great for spot cleaning with no harmful additives. Paramount Orange Mango Foaming Cleanser is pH balanced to improve the strength, luster and manageability of your pet's coat and is enriched with conditioning proteins and natural herbal extracts including Aloe Vera.

Q: What is Aloe Vera?

A: Aloe Vera is a well-studied herb for topical use. Documented beneficial properties include pain relief, anti-swelling and anti-itching. The herb has also been documented to increase blood flow to the area in which it is applied, speeding healing .

Q: Why Do Cats Hate Water?

A: Not all kitties hate H20. Cats from hot locales even have a tendency to love it (including lions, tigers, jaguars and ocelots.) However, other cats who live in colder areas, such as the lynx, bobcat and cougar do not venture out of their way to get wet. Some veterinarians theorize that water destroys how fur insulates an animal against cold. Although most domestic cats do not like water very much, there are not any that completely avoid it. However their ancestors developed an attitude about water a long time ago was passed on to domestic cats today.

As February arrives, there is a feeling of (puppy) love in the air. By giving your pet lots of love, you will help keep them happy and healthy. Spending quality time with them and including them in activities strengthens the bond you share. Simply walking, brushing or playing games with your companion animal will result in greater happiness and a longer life for your pet.

What is "Spaying" and "Neutering" and why should my pet have it done? Dogs and cats should be surgically sterilized to prevent unwanted pregnancies as well as undesirable mating-related behaviors. In females, this operation is called "spaying" and involves removal of the ovaries and uterus. For males, "neutering" involves surgically removing the testicles. This year approximately ten million "excess" dogs and cats will be killed in shelters, while millions of homeless animals live shortened, difficult, hungry lives on the streets, only to die miserably from disease or injury. By being a responsible caregiver and sterilizing your companion animals, you avoid contributing to the terrible problem of pet overpopulation. Additionally, spayed and neutered pets have a reduced risk for developing many diseases. Please, be your best friend's best friend and spay or neuter your pet.

Annually, approximately 10,000 dogs and cats are victims of accidental poisoning by automobile antifreeze. Your pet does not need to consume a large quantity of antifreeze to be poisoned. Most brands of commercial antifreeze consist of 95% ethylene glycol, an extremely toxic chemical that is sweet tasting to your pet. Unfortunately, even a few licks of this liquid can be fatal. Poisoning can occur at anytime, particularly when a car boils over or when a hose leaks, releasing the antifreeze. Be extremely careful because dogs or cats may gain access to antifreeze that has been improperly or inadequately stored, spilled or leaked onto a garage floor. Make "shure" all of your antifreeze containers are well secured and that your animal has plenty of fresh water at all times.

If a cat flattens his ears he is usually annoyed or frightened. Twitching them backward and forward usually means he is either anxious or worried about whatever he hears or sees. If he waves his tail quietly from side to side, it indicates that he is in a happy and possibly in a teasingly playful mood. When kitty rubs up against your legs with a little hop and a purr he is trying to say hello, I love you and pay attention to me.
