A Shure Pets Celebrity Pet Party (originating from New York City) featuring Jenna Morasca and Ethan Zohn, both winners of the hit CBS show Survivor, along with Andrew Shure, will air in May on Inside Edition (the nation's longest running syndicated newsmagazine show). On April 21, Pet Consultant Mary Flanagan (#0228 Owego, NY), was featured in an article in The Press & Sun-Bulletin, Binghamton, NY. The article, titled "Pampered Pets are the Life of These Parties", focuses on Mary's Shure Pets business and the Shure Pets business model. It states "Tupperware and Avon are so yesterday. Handmade baskets? Gourmet Cookware? Been there. Done that. Instead, [Shure Pets] in-home shopping parties are going to the dogs. This is a new breed of house party where people and their pets can check out the latest for the four legged set."

On Saturday, May 7th, 2005, Shure Pets is proudly taking part in the 11th annual Anti-Cruelty Society's Bark in the Park. This 3.2 mile (5K) walk for dogs begins at 9:00 a.m. at Montrose Harbor in Chicago, IL, with signups beginning at 7:00 a.m. The Shure Pets Pound will be in attendance with a booth displaying our unique products and business opportunities. Shure Pets University (SPU): Our Shure Pets University training and educational program meets monthly at the Corporate Office, in Chicago, IL. This seminar serves as a platform to discuss Shure Pets and trends in the Direct Selling and Pet Industries, as well as offering tips to help you grow, develop and maintain your business. All Pet Consultants are invited and encouraged to attend SPU, as there is much that can be gained during this hands-on gathering. Conference Calls: Just a reminder that all Tuesdays outside of the first Tuesday of the Month (SPU), conference calls occur for Pet Consultants to participate in. The 2nd Tuesday of the Month's Conference Call is for all new Pet Consultants, the 3rd Tuesday is for any Pet Consultant Team, and the 4th Tuesday is open to all Pet Consultants. Melissa W. (#0336 Bondrant, IA) and her husband, Steve, live in Bondurant, Iowa, outside of Des Moines. They are expecting their first child in December. Currently, their pets include Chester and Abby. Chester is a seven and a half year old sable ferret, and Abby is a six year old mixed breed dog. Melissa states, "As far as pets go, this past year or so has been pretty rough on us. Our eleven year old Black Lab, Freedom died in March, and our seven year old Silver ferret, Ginger passed away in October. We hope our hearts heal soon and that we are able to add more pets to our family as it is strange taking care of only two now!"

Melissa has been a Shure Pets Consultant since December 2004, and found Shure Pets online. "I was looking for a pet related home business, and Shure Pets was the only one! I checked out the website and I knew right away that I wanted to be part of this company!"

Pets in a Storm: Pets can become freighted and scared when a storm occurs due to their heightened sense of hearing, the intense sound and barometric pressure changes in the atmosphere. To help your pet in a thunderstorm, create a safe haven for them such as a kennel covered in a blanket or a closet with your pet's favorite bed and toys. These "havens" allow your pet to have his own zone to rest in when storms approach. Encourage your pet to use them and don't forget to praise them for doing so. Remember, paying too much attention to anxious behavior activities may actually encourage your pet. Do not make a big ordeal about his anxiety no matter how much you want to snuggle and love him. Light at Night: Now that Spring has arrived, pet walks and outdoor activities occur with greater frequency. Pet Loss and Children: It is natural to protect our children from painful experiences. Many adults are surprised to find how well most children deal with a pet's death if they are prepared with simple, honest explanations. Children begin to understand the concept of death at an early age, even though they may not understand it at a conscious level. When a pet is dying, it is more difficult for a child to resolve the grief if the child is not told the truth. Adults should avoid using terms like "put to sleep" when discussing euthanasia of a pet. A child may misinterpret this common phrase and develop a terror of bedtime. Additionally, many parents may help the children understand the process and remember their companion by placing a Pet Memorial Stone (item #732) in their yard.
